a signal changes its phase by 2 pi multiplied its frequency. phase detector can be realised by sequencial as well as analog circuit by didode or cmos for high speed. normally a charge pump is required before filtering the dc ouput by low pass filter, a charge pump gives constant current output which is nothing but a three pole switch. many software is availave for pll simulation from which code loader is the modarate freeware from naional semiconductor.

Charge Pump[edit]
A charge pump isn't a phase detector by itself. This should be corrected in the article. --Necto 08:41, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Needs Work[edit]
Wow. The writing on this page is terrible - it's probably the worst wikipedia entry I've seen. Can we get a native english speaker o fix it? 123.243.237.83 (talk) 15:02, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've done work smoothing things over and sloshing material from Phase-locked loop. It is still rough and not well cited. --Kvng (talk) 04:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Removed link[edit]
I have removed the external link AD8343 High IP3 Active Mixer, because I don't think it's relevant to the article. The word phase isn't even mentioned in the referenced document. --HelgeStenstrom (talk) 11:43, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Merge phase detector characteristic[edit]
It has been proposed (but not argued) to merge phase detector characteristic into this article. (Just creating heading) Glrx (talk) 02:00, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- This might not be feasible. These are two different discussions. One deals with the mathematics, and the other deals with physical circuits. As it stands now, I'm not in favor of it. Both articles would need major rewrites (which I certainly do not have the time resource to do), which case you're moving material to different articles anyway. So you aren't really gaining anything here imho. Nodekeeper (talk)
Merge Phase frequency detector[edit]
Aside from some unfootnoted reference, Phase frequency detector doesn't seem to have anything that is not already present in Phase detector § Phase-frequency detector. Should it just be turned into a redirect? ~Kvng (talk) 00:55, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Merge. It's not really a frequency detector -- it just saturates. "The PFD is an improvement over the phase comparators of early PLLs in that it also provides a frequency error output as well as a phase error signal." Ugh. It's also not an improvement in high noise situations. Keeping the phase detectors together in one article would allow a better compare and contrast. Glrx (talk) 14:07, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Phase difference[edit]
phase difference only makes sense when comparing two signals with the same frequency. When you have the phase detector working in say the PLL, it manages to find the "phase difference" between two signals of unequal frequency. I think this article needs a section explaining how this works. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aditya8795 (talk • contribs) 15:16, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
